Insurance Damage Assessment on a real Australian project siteEVIDENCE / INSURANCE-DA

Insurance damage assessment provides an independent engineering evaluation of structural damage caused by insured events. We assess damage from storms, cyclones, flooding, fire, vehicle impact, explosion, subsidence, and third-party construction activity. Each report separates insured damage from pre-existing conditions and maintenance-related deterioration.

Our assessments follow a structured methodology: site inspection, damage documentation, cause analysis, and remediation scope development. We distinguish between damage caused by the insured event and damage attributable to other causes such as age, lack of maintenance, or pre-existing defects.

We work with all parties in the insurance process. Insurers and loss adjusters engage us to assess the validity and extent of claims. Policyholders engage us when they need independent verification of damage or when a claim has been declined or under-scoped. Our reports are accepted by all major Australian insurers.

Emergency response within 48 hours is available for major structural damage events including cyclone, storm, fire, and flood. Early assessment preserves evidence and prevents secondary damage from progressing.

Process

Our methodology

01

Emergency Response & Stabilisation

Rapid site attendance within 48 hours for major events. Assessment of immediate safety, make-safe recommendations, and evidence preservation before conditions change.

02

Damage Documentation

Detailed photographic record, damage mapping, material sampling where needed, and non-destructive testing to determine the full extent of structural damage including hidden damage.

03

Cause Analysis

Engineering analysis to determine which damage was caused by the insured event and which is attributable to pre-existing conditions, maintenance deficiency, or other causes.

04

Scope & Report

Remediation scope development with like-for-like repair specification, cost estimation, and a clear technical report suitable for claims processing or dispute resolution.

Use cases

Common applications

  • Insurer structural damage assessment
  • Loss adjuster technical support
  • Policyholder independent verification
  • Declined claim review and second opinion
  • Catastrophic event bulk assessment
  • Subrogation investigation
  • Business interruption structural evidence
  • Strata insurance damage claims

Frequently asked questions

4 questions answered.

Q01

Can I engage you if my insurance claim has been declined?

Yes. We frequently provide independent second opinions for policyholders whose claims have been declined, partially accepted, or under-scoped. Our assessment may identify structural damage that was not detected in the original assessment, or provide a different engineering opinion on cause. An independent report can support internal dispute resolution, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), or legal proceedings.

Q02

How do you separate storm damage from pre-existing issues?

We use engineering indicators including crack pattern analysis, staining and weathering patterns, material condition testing, and construction record review. Storm damage typically produces sudden, directional damage patterns. Pre-existing deterioration shows progressive, multi-directional characteristics. Laboratory testing of materials can confirm the age and mechanism of damage. Our reports clearly document which damage falls within each category.

Q03

Do you work for insurers or policyholders?

Both. We are engaged by insurers, loss adjusters, solicitors, and policyholders. Regardless of who engages us, our findings are evidence-based and independent. We report what the engineering evidence shows. This independence is what makes our reports accepted by all parties in the insurance process.

Q04

What happens during a natural disaster with many properties affected?

We maintain surge capacity for catastrophic events. After major storms, floods, or cyclones, we deploy multiple investigation teams to assess affected properties. We work with loss adjusters to triage and prioritise assessments, ensuring that the most severely affected properties are attended first. Preliminary verbal reports can be provided within 24 hours of site attendance to support urgent make-safe decisions.
