SchmidtNon-Destructive Testing
Schmidt Rebound Hammer
The Schmidt hammer fires a spring-loaded mass against the concrete surface and records the rebound distance. The rebound number indicates near-surface hardness and, through calibration, provides an indicative compressive strength.
Primary value is comparative: systematic testing across a structure quickly identifies areas of lower quality for targeted investigation. Testing is rapid (under one minute per location), portable, and requires no power supply.
Schmidt hammer results are not used alone for strength determination. They guide core location selection and provide broad quality screening.
